Where to Eat: Honolulu Specialty Bakeries

Dining Guide - Honolulu's Specialty Bakeries

October 10, 2025

I struggled with how to name this post. Honolulu has a lot of excellent bakeries but in this post I wanted to highlight some of the smaller shops that are thriving in farmer’s markets, parking lots, and small brick & mortar shops. These shops are creating delicious baked goods in a time when everything is more expensive and, in some cases, difficult to obtain. In the time since I compiled this list, some of the shops have closed indefinitely including Honolulu Baking Company and WallFlour Bake Shop. I hope they will be back soon.

Beyond Pastry Studio - lilikoi yuzu biscuit

Beyond Pastry Studio

Beyond Pastry Studio is a small but popular bakery in Downtown Honolulu. It serves up a variety of sweet and savory biscuits, scones, and pastries as well as tarts and cakes. The Lilikoi Biscuit (pictured) is a personal favorite (if I was forced to choose only one).

Bits & Bites Cafe - Lilikoi Scone

Bits & Bites Cafe

Tucked away at one end of a strip mall, this bakery relocated from Kailua to Hawaii Kai. It serves up a variety of creatively flavored scones perfect for brunch or afternoon tea.

Selection of donuts from Holey Grail Donuts

Holey Grail Donuts

Holey Grail serves cake donuts that are taro-based and vegan with unique flavors like dragonfruit, lilikoi, and smoked coconut. The donuts are made fresh so there may be a bit of a wait when the shop is busy but they are worth the wait.

Little Vessels Donut Co.

Little Vessel Co.

Another plant-based, vegan donut offering is served out of a parking lot in Kaimuki. These fluffy, risen donuts also have unique and seasonal flavors like kabocha pumpkin spice and strawberry coconut. Prepare to wait in line as the pop-up is only open certain days of the week and are especially popular on the weekend.

Ocean Side Bakery

Ocean Side Bakery

Open for a little over a year, Ocean Side Bakery is a popular little bakery that serves up delicious French pastries including flaky croissants and canelés de Bordeaux topped with tropical fillings like lilikoi curd or haupia. The brûléed cinnamon roll is an absolute favorite of ours.
