I’m Julie. Welcome to my blog.

 

I’m the cook, pseudo-food stylist, and photographer behind She’s Almost Always Hungry. I’m a Hawaii girl who braved the winters of New England for nearly half my life before permanently returning to the islands I love.

I worked for many years as a tech geek, but my thoughts and heart belonged to food. I started this food journal as a creative outlet and a way to share my food experiences, travel adventures, and recipes. I write about the things I love to eat and the places I love to visit.

Some other things about me:

  • I love to research and explore new cities – the markets, the restaurants, the food shops.
  • I am a Disney fan.
  • Customs agents are perplexed and bemused by the things I bring back to the States like tomato puree, mustard, Hob Nobs, and Cadbury chocolates from the UK (the U.S. stuff is crap).
  • One of my favorite things to do is sit around a table with friends and family, laughing together and eating good food.
  • One of my favorite things in the world to eat was the doughnut from Craigie on Main (R.I.P.).
  • I am a community recipe tester for America’s Test Kitchen and you can be one too.

This blog is a personal website written and edited by me, Julie Char. It is a series of posts about food and travel, often with recipes. The views and opinions expressed on this blog, unless otherwise stated, are mine.

Recipe Attribution

I am not a recipe developer by trade but am more of a recipe tinkerer. The recipes I share are often, although not always, inspired by cookbooks in my collection or recipes I find on the Internet. I will always strive to detail the provenance of any recipe I post, whether it is from a stained recipe card from my popo, a cookbook, or another blog.

Nutrition Information

Where possible I try to include nutrition information if it was provided in the original recipe. If not I use the recipe calculator on SparkRecipes or the nutrition calculator in recipesgenerator.com. These are not lab tested results but are provided for general information purposes only.

Compensation

I do not accept any form of cash advertising or paid topic insertions. Any links in posts to vendors are for the convenience of readers but I receive no compensation. Nothing in any of the posts has been placed there because payment exchanged hands. There are no sponsored posts on this site. I do not participate in the Amazon Affiliate program.

Restaurant Reviews and Recommendations

For any restaurant reviews or recommendations, I have paid for my meal or it was hosted and paid for by a personal acquaintance, not the restaurant. This website is meant to share foods and places that I enjoy, it is not a restaurant review site. For that reason, I tend to write about only places that I can recommend. When I can, I will update past information (e.g., restaurant closures) but do not update past posts on a regular basis (as one might find on a restaurant review site).
